In my final evaluation of my media project I'm going to be looking through the many things I've learnt and the skills developed from this. Along with background information I was unaware of before I began this project. This information has given me more of an insight to the media world.
My media product consists of a group of four. We all were given individual roles that led up to us creating our film. In this product, there are many challenges and developments we used to challenge the normal conventions of our chosen media product which consisted of us creating an action film, or so the beginning of an action film.
The main ways we challenged the normal conventions of our action film was to, instead of having the "Damsel in distress" idea we decided to make the person in danger a male. Luckily, it turned out to work quite well. Our action hero also is not established with a catch phrase like many action heroes.
The action hero in our film has not got any superior job, he's just a former drug dealer and heroin addict - this establishes his fatal flaw in the beginning of the film which is normally established half way through or at the end.
My media product represents particular social groups by using some of the main conventions of an action movie. For example, the backing soundtrack that we chose was suitable for the genre and the movement of the actions in the film. The fact that the film is based for action - it immediately gives itself a social group. Men are the main target audience/social group for this film - also considering that there have been no females introduced to the audience.
I think that the mainstream institution might distribute my media product because it fits the main conventions of a action genre based film. This film uses these conventions to try and fit into the mainstream institutions for example - the "Big Six." The "Big Six" (Universal Studios, 21st Century Fox Studios etc) create films that are very successful. Unlike Niche institutions, who's films are not as successful and do not consist on having well known actors/actresses in them. Whereas with the beginning of the film we have created we would like to think that it would be in the same category as the mainstream films for example - Notting Hill.
The audience of my media product would mainly be men. This audience would consist of an age limit, from the age 12 to 27, maybe over. This would be a younger audience targetted film but not suitable for too young of an audience. This would fit with the category of a normal action genre based film. Women are abviously allowed to veiw this film however their interest in it might not be high because of the lack of females in the film.
We attract and address our audience by using the main conventions of an action film. The audience, that enjoy watching films like this, would be attracted by what they expect in an action film. This obviously would be the action within the film and the investigation, mystery and search shown by the main character - this all beginning in the film we have created. Our action hero, established in the beginning of the film, is not exactly what the audience would expect because the audience aren't sure whether he is trust worthly. This would create curiousity within the audience and give them the urge to carry on watching.
The technologies used to create this film - the editing for my part - was difficult to learn in the beginning. The program that I used was quite complicated to understand however once I got the hang of it, it was flowing nicely. I began to have more respect for film editors considering the fact that our film only lasted 3 minutes whereas normal films last over an hour. The amount of editing involved was quite heavy and hard to create perfection, but it could be done with practise. By the end of creating this product - the program which consisted with the editing tools was not so hard afterall, and I think I've learnt a quite alot about how to edit a film and add sounds and visual effects to the film.
The preliminary task, in the beginning, was harder than I thought it would be. I struggled quite alot with the editing and expected the rest of the project to be extremely difficult. My progress of editing started at the preliminary task and was soon becoming familar as I continued editing. However I think if the preliminary task hadn't taken place I would have taken longer to learn my way around the editing and this would have effected the amount of time I had to edit the product itself.

We have now clearly planned our next meeting for filming and have given ourselves a good amount of time to film and re film the same shot to get it right.
- 17th of November '09
Our filming has taken great progress and is coming along quite nicely. Today we had to discuss the matter of the editing becuase I, the editor, am going away before the deadline of this project so we have to begin editing before everyone else does so that we don't fall behind.

- 1st of December '09
Today we searched for the backing soundtrack for the film. And we have found the appropiate one. I have added it to our film so we can base the actions within the film around it.
- 2nd of December '09
The editing has continued and is coming on very well. I have shown some the the members in my group how to do certain things just incase something happens whilst im away and they need to change a few things.

Our editing is nearly finished and is beginning to look very much like the story board and our make goal for this film.
